Clash of Clans Helpers Share a 23-Hour Clock: Why Timing Matters
Clash of Clans Helpers follow a shared 23-hour workday. The clock begins when you assign any Helper, rather than restarting separately for each one. The Builder’s Apprentice also works for one hour at a time, so the length of his work session and the time until the next workday are different numbers.
That distinction matters when you schedule a building upgrade around a login window. Assigning another Helper later does not create an independent full-day cooldown. You need to check both whether that Helper has already received a task and how much of the common workday remains.

What the Builder’s Apprentice actually unlocks
According to Supercell’s Helper rules, the Builder’s Apprentice requires Town Hall 10 and costs 500 Gems to recruit permanently. He reduces time on assigned building work and can help in the Home Village, the Forge and with Gear Ups. The Lab Assistant is a separate Helper, unlocked free at Town Hall 9 when you build the Helper Hut.
Both the Apprentice and Lab Assistant work for one hour per assignment. At level 1, each removes one hour from the assigned upgrade timer during that session. Upgrading the Helper increases the amount of time removed; it does not turn the session into an all-day assignment.
If Gems are part of your spending plan, you can check the Clash of Clans purchase page. First decide whether your account meets the unlock requirement and has suitable work to assign. A higher balance does not make an ineligible building task eligible.
One shared workday, with one task for each Helper
A shared cooldown does not mean you must choose only one Helper for the whole day. Each Helper can receive one task per workday. The shared part is the schedule: everyone follows the same 23-hour cycle, started by the first assignment.
Here is a clock-time example using that rule. Assume all Helpers are ready and you assign the Apprentice at 09:00. The shared workday ends at 08:00 the following day. If you assign the Lab Assistant at 13:00, that later assignment does not move the common boundary to the following afternoon.
Example time | Action or state | Shared time remaining |
|---|---|---|
09:00 | Apprentice starts; the workday begins | 23 hours |
10:00 | Apprentice’s one-hour session ends | 22 hours |
13:00 | Lab Assistant starts an unused task | 19 hours |
14:00 | Lab Assistant’s one-hour session ends | 18 hours |
Next day, 08:00 | The next shared workday begins | New workday |
The times above illustrate the shared clock; they are not a server reset schedule. Your own cycle follows your assignment time. Read the remaining timer under the Helpers instead of assuming that every account becomes ready at midnight.

Builder Potions do not boost the Apprentice
Supercell explicitly states that Builder Potions do not affect the Builder’s Apprentice. Do not multiply his listed contribution by a potion’s builder speed and count that as extra Apprentice output. Treat the Apprentice’s contribution separately when deciding how to finish an upgrade before you next log in.
Likewise, the Lab Assistant’s working-speed display belongs to that Helper’s level. In the official example below, the screen is for a level 4 Lab Assistant. It illustrates a one-hour working period with a higher speed, rather than a four-hour session or an Apprentice receiving a potion bonus.

Keep the assignment attached to useful work
You can open the Helper menu through the Helper Hut. The Apprentice can also be accessed from a building with ongoing construction, while the Lab Assistant can be accessed through the Laboratory. This is useful when you are already checking the upgrade that needs help, rather than returning to the Hut first.
The option Keep assigned until upgrade is complete keeps the Helper attached to that project. It does not remove the one-task-per-workday restriction or make the Helper work continuously. Check the project again when it finishes so that your next assignment serves another upgrade instead of relying on a task that has already ended.
For recruitment and level-up decisions, look at the upgrades you genuinely run and how often you can keep a Helper assigned. A permanent recruit can be useful over repeated workdays, but there is no universal payback date without your own task durations and usage pattern. Consistent useful assignments matter more than a theoretical maximum you cannot maintain.
