Pokémon GO Fest 2026: Global is shaping up to be one of the biggest events in the game’s history. The worldwide celebration introduces Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y, gives every eligible Trainer access to Zeraora Special Research, features a massive two-day raid lineup, and increases the chance of encountering Shiny Pokémon.

The event will take place on July 11 and July 12, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. local time each day. For the first time, Pokémon GO Fest: Global is free for all Trainers who log in during the event weekend. The main Global features, Special Research, bonuses, and increased Shiny encounter chance do not require an event ticket.

This guide covers everything currently confirmed, including the Mega Mewtwo raid schedule, how to obtain Zeraora, habitat hours, raid bosses, Incense encounters, research, bonuses, and the best ways to prepare.

What Is New During Pokémon GO Fest 2026 Global?

GO Fest 2026 introduces three major features.

First, Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y will make their Pokémon GO debuts. Each form has its own Mega Energy and separately tracked Mega Level progression.

Second, Zeraora will make its global Pokémon GO debut through Special Research. Trainers only need to log in during the event weekend to receive the research.

Third, the event uses six themed habitat periods covering all 18 Pokémon types. These habitats influence wild encounters and type-based Field Research throughout the weekend.

Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y Debut

Mewtwo can now Mega Evolve into two different temporary forms. Previously caught Mewtwo are also eligible, so Trainers do not need to catch a completely new Mewtwo before using Mega Energy.

However, Mega Mewtwo works differently from Pokémon with only one Mega Evolution:

  • Mega Mewtwo X uses Mewtwo Mega Energy X.

  • Mega Mewtwo Y uses Mewtwo Mega Energy Y.

  • The two forms have independently tracked Mega Levels.

  • Mega Mewtwo requires more energy than ordinary Mega Evolutions.

  • Energy can be obtained from the corresponding Super Mega Raid and GO Fest Timed Research.

The official Mega Mewtwo announcement confirms that existing Mewtwo can Mega Evolve once Trainers obtain the required form-specific energy.

Mega Mewtwo X Raid Schedule

Mega Mewtwo X will appear in Super Mega Raids on Saturday, July 11.

Defeating it rewards Mewtwo Mega Energy X. The regular Mewtwo encountered after the raid will know the Fast Attack Counter.

Mewtwo caught from these Super Mega Raids will have at least its first Mega Level unlocked and can Mega Evolve without paying the normal initial Mega Energy cost. Lucky Trainers may encounter a Mewtwo that already has Mega Level 2 or 3 unlocked.

Mega Mewtwo Y Raid Schedule

Mega Mewtwo Y will appear in Super Mega Raids on Sunday, July 12.

These raids reward Mewtwo Mega Energy Y. Mewtwo caught after defeating Mega Mewtwo Y will know the Charged Attack Psystrike.

As with the X form, every Mewtwo obtained from these raids will have at least Mega Level 1 unlocked, with a possibility of receiving one at Mega Level 2 or 3.

Mega Mewtwo X or Y: Which Should You Prioritize?

Neither energy type can replace the other. Trainers who want access to both Mega Evolutions should complete Super Mega Raids on both days.

Prioritize Mega Mewtwo X on Saturday when you want:

  • Mewtwo Mega Energy X

  • A Mewtwo with Counter

  • Progress toward Mega Mewtwo X’s separate Mega Level

Prioritize Mega Mewtwo Y on Sunday when you want:

  • Mewtwo Mega Energy Y

  • A Mewtwo with Psystrike

  • Progress toward Mega Mewtwo Y’s separate Mega Level

If your raid resources are limited, consider which Mega form and featured move you value most. Psystrike is already a well-established signature attack for Mewtwo, while Counter gives Mewtwo an unusual Fighting-type Fast Attack option. Exact performance may depend on the final raid, PvE, and PvP data available after launch.

How Super Mega Raids Work

Super Mega Raids are substantially harder than standard Mega Raids. The boss can become enraged and create shields that reduce damage. Each Trainer can destroy one shield by using a Mega-Evolved Pokémon, making team coordination especially important.

Official Super Mega Raid guidance recommends joining with at least seven other Trainers, meaning a baseline group of eight players. Legendary Mega Pokémon may require even larger groups, so Mega Mewtwo should not be treated like an ordinary raid boss.

Local Trainers can use Link Charges or a Premium Battle Pass to enter. Remote participants need both a Remote Raid Pass and Link Charges. Read the official Super Mega Raid and Mega Evolution update before building your raid plan.

Can Mega Mewtwo Be Shiny?

Yes. The official event page confirms that Mewtwo encountered after Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y Super Mega Raids can be Shiny.

Mewtwo may also receive a special GO Fest background. If a Mewtwo with this background Mega Evolves, the Mega Evolution background will receive an additional visual effect. Mewtwo from these raids will also be more likely to have high Attack, Defense, and HP values.

How to Get Zeraora in Pokémon GO

Zeraora, the Thunderclap Pokémon, will make its worldwide Pokémon GO debut during GO Fest 2026: Global.

To obtain the research:

  1. Open Pokémon GO during the July 11–12 event weekend.

  2. Confirm that the Zeraora Special Research has been added to your Research menu.

  3. Complete the required stages.

  4. Finish the final encounter task to meet Zeraora.

The Special Research does not expire after it has been claimed. Trainers may therefore finish it after GO Fest ends, although logging in during the event weekend is necessary to receive it.

What If You Already Caught Zeraora?

Trainers who attended Pokémon GO Fest in Tokyo, Chicago, or Copenhagen and already encountered Zeraora will receive Zeraora Candy instead of another Zeraora encounter from the Global research.

Can Zeraora Be Shiny?

Shiny Zeraora has not been announced for Pokémon GO Fest 2026: Global. The official event page confirms the standard Zeraora encounter but does not mark the encounter as Shiny eligible.

Players should not confuse Zeraora’s global debut with a Shiny debut unless Pokémon GO publishes an additional announcement before the event.

Pokémon GO Fest 2026 Habitat Schedule

GO Fest 2026 uses six themed periods, with three on Saturday and three on Sunday. Together, they cover all 18 Pokémon types.

The official page confirms the featured types but has not yet provided a complete species-by-species wild spawn list. Additional encounter details may therefore appear closer to the event.

Saturday Habitat Priorities

Stormfire Peaks is useful for collecting Ice-, Electric-, and Fire-type Candy and progressing the corresponding type medals.

Astral Tides features Psychic, Ghost, and Water types. Ghost-type Pokémon may also help newer players build teams for Psychic-type raid bosses.

Dragonflight Summit should be valuable for Trainers seeking Dragon-type Candy, XL Candy, and progress toward the difficult Dragon-type platinum medal.

Sunday Habitat Priorities

Earthforged Domain focuses on Ground, Steel, and Normal Pokémon.

Verdant Anomaly covers Poison, Bug, and Grass types. Bug-type attackers may be useful against Psychic-type opponents, depending on their individual strength and movesets.

Twilight Battlefield features Dark, Fairy, and Fighting types. Dark-type encounters could be particularly useful for players building general Psychic-type raid teams.

Field Research will refresh every hour and provide tasks connected to the featured Pokémon types. Spin PokéStops again when the research rotation changes instead of keeping low-priority tasks for the entire day.

Costume Pokémon and Special Encounters

Three new team-themed Pikachu will appear during the Global event:

  • Pikachu wearing a Team Instinct Hat

  • Pikachu wearing a Team Mystic Hat

  • Pikachu wearing a Team Valor Hat

All three may be encountered as Shiny Pokémon.

Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle wearing Pikachu visors will also return. Unlike many costume Pokémon, these three can evolve during the event, and their Shiny versions will be available.

Collectors should save enough Pokémon Storage for all three team-hat Pikachu, their Shiny versions, and the complete evolution families of the visor-wearing starters.

Incense-Exclusive Encounters

Regular Incense will attract the following special Pokémon:

  • All forms of Unown

  • Tropius

  • Bouffalant

These encounters may be Shiny. Tropius and Bouffalant are normally associated with limited geographic regions, making their worldwide Incense availability especially valuable for Pokédex completion and trading.

Daily Adventure Incense does not activate this special encounter pool. Use ordinary Incense during the official event hours.

Complete GO Fest 2026 Global Raid Lineup

GO Fest 2026 has a very large raid pool. Saturday centers on Mega Mewtwo X and many classic Legendary Pokémon, while Sunday features Mega Mewtwo Y, Ultra Beasts, Deoxys formes, Forces of Nature, Tapu guardians, and several other Legendary Pokémon.

The official page currently organizes bosses by event day rather than assigning every boss to a specific three-hour habitat period.

Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf will appear more frequently in their respective regions on Saturday.

Several Sunday Ultra Beasts remain region-dependent:

  • Celesteela: Southern Hemisphere

  • Kartana: Northern Hemisphere

  • Stakataka: Eastern Hemisphere

  • Blacephalon: Western Hemisphere

  • Buzzwole: the Americas and Greenland

  • Pheromosa: Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and India

  • Xurkitree: Asia-Pacific

Remote invitations may be useful for obtaining bosses unavailable in your own region, but remember that remote Super Mega Raids require both a Remote Raid Pass and Link Charges.

Best Raid Priorities

Priority 1: Mega Mewtwo

Mega Mewtwo X and Y should be the main priority for most players because this is their Pokémon GO debut, their energy types are separate, and Super Mega Raid catches begin with at least one Mega Level unlocked.

Do enough raids to obtain the energy required for the form you intend to use. Players seeking both forms must raid on both Saturday and Sunday.

Priority 2: Missing Mega Energy

The event includes 18 additional Mega Raid bosses across two days. Prioritize Mega Pokémon that are still missing from your Mega Pokédex or forms for which you have insufficient Mega Energy.

Priority 3: High-Value Legendary Pokémon

Saturday offers concentrated access to Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, Dialga, Palkia, Reshiram, Zekrom, Giratina, Xerneas, and other major Legendary Pokémon.

Sunday provides Origin Forme Dialga and Palkia, Necrozma, Terrakion, Darkrai, Cresselia, Zacian, Zamazenta, Deoxys, and a broad selection of Ultra Beasts.

Choose targets based on your Pokédex, Candy requirements, Shiny collection, PvP plans, and available raid resources rather than attempting every boss.

Priority 4: Regional Raid Bosses

Uxie, Mesprit, Azelf, and the region-specific Ultra Beasts should receive additional attention from collectors. Arrange remote invitations with overseas friends before the event begins instead of trying to find groups at the last minute.

Research During GO Fest 2026

Zeraora Special Research

Every eligible Trainer who logs in during the event weekend can claim Special Research leading to Zeraora. Once claimed, it does not expire.

Branching Mega Mewtwo Timed Research

A new branching Timed Research experience will allow players to choose between a Mega Mewtwo X route and a Mega Mewtwo Y route.

Unlike Zeraora Special Research, Timed Research normally has a deadline. Complete it before the displayed expiration time and review both paths before making a permanent choice.

Hourly Field Research

PokéStop Field Research will refresh every hour. Tasks will be based on the Pokémon type featured during that hour.

Clear unwanted tasks before the rotation changes so that you can collect new event research from the same play area.

Global Challenges and Ultra Unlocks

Global Challenges will be active throughout GO Fest. Completing them collectively will unlock additional bonuses and future Ultra Unlock events.

Check the Today View regularly because newly unlocked bonuses may change which Pokémon, raids, or resources should receive priority.

All GO Fest 2026 Global Bonuses

Some bonuses are active only during the main 10:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m. event window, while trade, Gift, and free raid-pass bonuses remain active throughout the full calendar day.

The free Raid Passes are received one at a time by spinning Gym Photo Discs. Use your current pass before spinning for another.

The Remote Raid Pass limit will also be removed from July 6 through July 12, providing more flexibility for regional raids and long-distance groups.

GO Fest 2026 Shiny Hunting Guide

GO Fest provides all Trainers with an increased chance of encountering Shiny Pokémon, although Pokémon GO has not published a precise global Shiny rate.

Confirmed Shiny opportunities include:

  • Mewtwo from Mega Mewtwo X raids

  • Mewtwo from Mega Mewtwo Y raids

  • Team Instinct Hat Pikachu

  • Team Mystic Hat Pikachu

  • Team Valor Hat Pikachu

  • Pikachu-visor Bulbasaur

  • Pikachu-visor Charmander

  • Pikachu-visor Squirtle

  • Unown attracted by Incense

  • Tropius attracted by Incense

  • Bouffalant attracted by Incense

  • Various eligible Mega and Legendary raid bosses

To maximize encounters, keep moving through an area with dense PokéStops and natural spawn points. Use quick-catching techniques, avoid spending too long evaluating common catches, and mark important Pokémon for later appraisal.

Regular Incense is particularly important because Unown, Tropius, and Bouffalant will not be part of the special Daily Adventure Incense pool.

How to Prepare for GO Fest 2026

Increase Pokémon Storage

GO Fest includes costume Pokémon, regionals, Legendary catches, Shiny encounters, trading candidates, and multiple Mewtwo raids.

Clear unnecessary Pokémon and increase storage before the event. Stopping every few minutes to transfer Pokémon will reduce the number of encounters you can check.

Prepare Your Item Bag

Recommended supplies include:

  • Poké Balls, Great Balls, and Ultra Balls

  • Golden Razz Berries

  • Silver Pinap Berries

  • Max Potions and Max Revives

  • Regular Incense

  • Lure Modules

  • Star Pieces

  • Lucky Eggs

  • Premium Battle Passes

  • Remote Raid Passes

Avoid filling your Item Bag with resources that can easily be replaced from PokéStops during the event.

Build Multiple Raid Teams

Prepare teams before Saturday so that you do not need to search through your collection in each lobby.

For Mega Mewtwo raids, prioritize strong Ghost- and Dark-type attackers. Mega Mewtwo X’s Fighting typing also gives Trainers additional options such as Flying- and Fairy-type damage.

Every Super Mega Raid participant should place at least one suitable Mega-Evolved Pokémon in the battle party because Mega Pokémon play an important role in breaking the boss’s shields.

Link Charges can be earned from weekly challenges, Gifts, and eligible Campfire meetup check-ins. They may also be available through the in-game shop or Pokémon GO Web Store.

Do not assume that owning Remote Raid Passes alone is enough to join Mega Mewtwo remotely. Super Mega Raids require Link Charges as well.

Find a Large Raid Group

Mega Mewtwo is designed for coordinated group play. Use the official Pokémon GO Map and Campfire to locate Super Mega Raid Gyms and registered community meetups.

Arrange your group before the raid starts and avoid relying entirely on random lobby participation.

Plan Your Trades

The event allows up to six Special Trades per day and halves the Stardust cost of all trades.

Prepare a list of regional Pokémon, Shiny Pokémon, Legendary Pokémon, and costume Pokémon you want to exchange. Trade bonuses remain active until 11:59 p.m., so trades can be completed after the main event hours.

Best Strategy for Saturday

Start Saturday by confirming that Zeraora Special Research and Mega Mewtwo Timed Research have appeared.

Your suggested Saturday order is:

  1. Claim all event research.

  2. Review the branching Mega Mewtwo research choice.

  3. Complete Mega Mewtwo X Super Mega Raids with a large group.

  4. Obtain enough Mewtwo Mega Energy X for your chosen Mewtwo.

  5. Use ordinary Incense for Unown, Tropius, and Bouffalant.

  6. Target high-priority Saturday Legendary raids.

  7. Use all available free Raid Passes.

  8. Save time after 7:00 p.m. for Special Trades.

Do not wait until the final hour to begin Mega Mewtwo X raids. Technical problems, weather, group availability, and limited Super Mega Raid locations could prevent you from obtaining enough energy.

Best Strategy for Sunday

Sunday follows the same basic structure, but Mega Mewtwo Y replaces Mega Mewtwo X.

Recommended priorities are:

  1. Confirm that all event research is progressing.

  2. Raid Mega Mewtwo Y for Mewtwo Mega Energy Y.

  3. Catch Mewtwo with Psystrike.

  4. Target regional Ultra Beasts through remote invitations.

  5. Complete any remaining Timed Research.

  6. Use the rest of your free Raid Passes.

  7. Finish Special Trades before midnight.

  8. Confirm that Zeraora Special Research remains in your Research menu.

Sunday’s raid pool is exceptionally large. Create a shortlist before the event instead of entering whichever raid happens to appear nearby.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Do not make these GO Fest preparation errors:

  • Forgetting to log in and claim Zeraora Special Research

  • Assuming Zeraora research and Timed Research have the same expiration rules

  • Missing Mega Mewtwo X on Saturday

  • Missing Mega Mewtwo Y on Sunday

  • Expecting X and Y Mega Energy to be interchangeable

  • Entering a Super Mega Raid with an undersized group

  • Forgetting to include a Mega-Evolved Pokémon in your party

  • Attempting a remote Super Mega Raid without Link Charges

  • Using Daily Adventure Incense instead of ordinary Incense

  • Beginning the event with full Pokémon Storage

  • Spending all raid resources on low-priority bosses

  • Forgetting that trade bonuses continue after 7:00 p.m.

  2. Raid Mega Mewtwo X on Saturday and Mega Mewtwo Y on Sunday.

  3. Complete the branching Timed Research before it expires.

After those objectives are secured, focus on missing Legendary Pokémon, regional raid bosses, Shiny checks, costume Pokémon, Incense encounters, and discounted trades.

Check the official GO Fest 2026 Global page before the event begins, as Pokémon GO may publish additional spawn, research, or gameplay details closer to July 11.
