NTE 1.4 Lakshana Meta Check: Akane Rin Resets the Element — Where Chaos, Hathor and Skia Stand Now

Version 1.4 hands Lakshana a new benchmark in Akane Rin. Here is how Chaos, Hathor and Skia fare now, which Remora and Stain teams still work, and where your Annulith should go.

Version 1.4 "For Whom the Verses Mourn" landed on September 30, 2026, and its second half arrived with the October 21 maintenance — the window that put Akane Rin on a Limited Board. Per the official Version 1.4 patch notes, Blackbird (S-Class, Psyche) headlined phase one from September 30 to October 21, 05:59 (UTC+8), and Akane Rin — an S-Class Lakshana carry on a Liquid Arc — took over phase two. Community trackers list her board as running from October 21 to November 11, so confirm the exact closing time on your own server before you commit pulls.

That one release did more damage to the Lakshana roster than any balance patch this year. Akane Rin is not just a stronger main DPS; she also brings a passive that refreshes Remora repeatedly on the same target, which is the mechanic the other three Lakshana units were all built around. When a new character both out-damages the old carry and does that carry's support job better, the whole element gets re-tiered overnight.

Here is the current state of the four Lakshana characters:

Character

Rarity

Primary Role

1.4 Status

Akane Rin

S-Class (limited)

Liquid

The short version: Akane Rin replaced Chaos as the carry, pushed Hathor out of the meta entirely, and left Skia with exactly one job he can still do for free.

How the Lakshana Reactions Actually Work

Before deciding who to bench, it helps to be precise about what Lakshana units are actually contributing. Lakshana's value in Neverness to Everness is almost never raw element damage — it is the reactions it unlocks when paired with the right second element.

Remora: Lakshana + Cosmos

Remora is the duo reaction between Lakshana and Cosmos. When the team triggers an Esper Cycle, the target enters Remora for roughly 5 seconds, and Remora slows both movement speed and attack speed. The effect decays over time and gets shorter if it is reapplied repeatedly, which is why "more Remora" is not automatically "better Remora."

Four Lakshana characters have a Remora Enhancement passive attached to their kit, and they work differently:

  • Skia (Suppression) — inflicts an additional stack of Remora whenever Fang Thrust hits a target already in Remora. His value is persistence, not duration.

  • Hathor (Delay Warning) — extends Remora to a flat 12 seconds and grants allies +10% CRIT Rate against Remora-marked targets. Her value is one long, clean window.

  • Chaos (Justice in Time) — when Remora ends, deals Lakshana damage equal to 800% of ATK, scaling +45% for every second beyond the base 5 seconds (capped at +300%). Reapplying resets the duration.

  • Akane Rin — refreshes Remora multiple times on the same target, producing the longest total uptime of the four.

Stain: Lakshana + Psyche

Stain is the duo reaction between Lakshana and Psyche. It shreds Psyche and Lakshana resistance on affected enemies, which is a straight damage amplification for both elements rather than a crowd-control effect. This is the reaction that matters most in 1.4, because Blackbird — the phase-one limited S-Class — is a Psyche carry who wants a Lakshana teammate purely to keep Stain on the field.

Charge, Blossom and the Triple Cycle

Blossom (Anima + Cosmos) and Remora can be active at the same time, and when they are, the team fires the Charge triple reaction. In a Charge shell, Vita Pistils hitting Remora-marked enemies feed the active character extra Ultimate Energy, which is what keeps a burst rotation spinning. This is the archetype the old Lakshana supports were designed for — and the one that 1.4 quietly abandoned.

Akane Rin: The New Lakshana Benchmark

Kit at a Glance

Akane Rin is an S-Class Lakshana main DPS on a Liquid Arc, and she is the 10th banner character in the game overall. In her kit, her guitar becomes her weapon: her Basic Attack Stringblade fires a four-hit ranged combo, with every hit generating String Energy. Her Redirect Skill Rhythm Wave attaches an Overtone debuff to a single target (tap) or an area (hold), and her channelled Basic Attacks then feed into that Overtone for bonus damage. Detonating Overtone with her enhanced Skill is her single-target burst. Her Ultimate Sonic Boom is a two-stage cast: the first hit deals heavy damage and puts her into a special state, and the second cast unleashes the bigger payoff.

Her signature Arc is Far Side of the Moon (570 ATK, 48% CRIT DMG). It grants CRIT Rate, boosts Redirect Skill damage by 28%, and after using her Redirect Skill gives her +28% Basic Attack damage and +20% Lakshana DMG amplification. Street Boxer is the console set for her, as it is for every Lakshana DPS: 2-piece gives +10% Lakshana DMG, and the 4-piece grants +14% CRIT Chance that rises to +28% for 20 seconds whenever the team triggers Remora or Stain.

Why She Crowds Out the Other Three

Akane Rin wins on two separate axes at once.

As a main DPS, she is a strict upgrade over Chaos. She is stronger than him even at zero duplicates, she does not need a specific reaction set-up to function, and because she generates her own Remora refreshes she does not need a second Lakshana unit on the field to enable her own damage.

As a sub-DPS, she replaces Hathor in Cosmos-led Charge teams. Hathor's entire selling point was a single 12-second Remora window; Akane Rin's passive refreshes Remora repeatedly, producing longer total uptime than one long window ever could — and she does meaningful damage while doing it.

That combination is what makes her so disruptive. She took the carry slot from Chaos and the support slot from Hathor and Skia in the same patch.

Best Akane Rin Teams in 1.4

  • Akane Rin + Blackbird + Esper Zero + Iroi — the strongest shell available to her. Blackbird keeps Stain permanently on the field through instant cycles, Esper Zero handles Blossom and Charge uptime, and Iroi buffs, heals and groups.

  • Akane Rin + Blackbird + Hotori + Daffodill/Lacrimosa — Hotori's skill-replication bursts Akane's enhanced Skill every 30 seconds, and the extra instant reaction feeds Nova.

  • Shinku + Akane Rin + Esper Zero + Iroi — the classic Charge team, with Akane Rin in the slot Hathor used to hold. Trigger Remora first and Blossom second to fully use the Blossom window.

One caveat worth flagging: community build data for Akane Rin notes that her Remora refresh does not help Chaos the way you would expect — his Justice in Time passive wants one long Remora that ends on schedule, and refreshes reset that timer. Pairing the two Lakshana carries is, in the community's own words, a cope pairing rather than a synergy.

Awakenings and Resonance Effects

Duplicates in NTE convert into Mind Shards, which unlock Awakening Levels — six per character, and unusually, you can activate them in any order and re-spec them for free at any time. At three Awakening Levels a character unlocks their first Resonance Effect, and a second one at six.

This matters for Akane Rin specifically: her Resonance Effects are strong enough that A3 and A6 are considered top-tier investments, while a C0 Akane Rin is already stronger than Chaos at equivalent investment. You do not need duplicates for her to be worth a slot — you need them only if you want her to reach her ceiling.

Skia: The A-Rank That Refuses to Retire

Skia is the odd one out here: an A-Class Lakshana unit on a Gas Arc who is still worth building in 1.4, despite Akane Rin existing.

What He Still Does Better Than Anyone

Skia's combat identity is stealth and ambush. His Fang Thrust entities break out of his shadow, track enemies and attach to them; his Suppression support skill adds another stack of Remora every time Fang Thrust hits a target already in Remora. His Ultimate, The Pack, extends his shadow outward for wide-area Lakshana damage and then buffs Fang Thrust damage.

Two build choices are what keep him employed:

  1. Good Boy's Grand Adventure (S-Class Arc) — +45% ATK, +18% Charge Efficiency, and +10% team ATK for 20 seconds after his Ultimate, rising to +16% if enemies are controlled by that Ultimate.

  1. Speedy Hedgehog (support console) — the 4-piece grants all allies +15% ATK for 20 seconds after an Ultimate, while the 2-piece adds Charge Efficiency.

Put together, Skia turns into a budget buffer who happens to also be a Lakshana body. His console bonus adds +10% ATK for every Type III module he equips, so a Street Boxer path with four Type III slots is worth up to +40% ATK on top.

Where He Lost Ground

In Cosmos-led Charge teams, Skia's priority dropped hard. Akane Rin's permanent Remora refresh is simply a better version of what Skia brought — for the cost of one limited S-Class copy, you get far more margin for error in the rotation than Skia's stacking ever provided.

But there is one place Akane Rin cannot push him out: Blackbird main-DPS teams. Blackbird does not want Akane Rin as a sub-DPS. She wants any Lakshana unit to keep Stain applied, and Skia does that while simultaneously handing the team an ATK buff through Good Boy's Grand Adventure and Speedy Hedgehog. Because Skia is an A-Class unit that most long-term players already have built, he remains the cheapest Stain enabler in the game.

Verdict: still worth building, but his role shrank from "Lakshana support" to "free Stain bot with an ATK buff."

Hathor: The First Lakshana Unit Fully Phased Out

The 12-Second Remora Problem

Hathor is an S-Class Lakshana burst DPS on a Plasma Arc, available on the standard banner. Her loop is simple: stack Express Delivery Power (up to 6 stacks) through her Redirect Skill Aerial Command, the Zero-Error Operation riposte after a Critical Dodge, and kill-triggered passives; then press her Ultimate Rider Express to enter Emergency Delivery, a 5-second state where her Skill becomes Cyclone Strike. Swapping characters instantly cancels the state, so she needs a clean field window.

Her kit-defining passive is Delay Warning: it extends Remora to 12 seconds and gives allies +10% CRIT Rate against Remora-marked targets. On paper, that is the single strongest Remora tool in the game.

In practice, it became her trap. To use Hathor with either Chaos or Akane Rin, you need the Remora duo reaction to fire — which means you also need a Cosmos unit on the team, and in a carry-focused shell that means slotting a Cosmos main DPS. Two characters with almost no buffing value now occupy two of your four slots, and the comp loses the slots it needed for buffers and healers.

Any Team Left for Her?

A few, but none of them are best-in-slot anymore:

  • Charge triple-cycle — Hathor + Nanally + Hotori + Esper Zero. Still functional and still her strongest shell, because the 12-second Remora window gives Vita Pistils a long time to generate Ultimate Energy through Charge hits.

  • Stain burst — Hathor + Fadia + Esper Zero + Mint, using Fadia to enable Stain for amplified burst.

  • Budget Remora — Hathor + Esper Zero + Mint + Haniel, a fully free-to-play shell.

The problem is that both Chaos and Akane Rin now perform better when they drop the Remora system entirely and run Blackbird for pure Stain instead. When the two characters Hathor was designed to support stop wanting her, she becomes the first of the four Lakshana units to be fully retired from the meta. She is still a perfectly usable standard-banner unit for early and mid-game content — she is just no longer part of any optimal 1.4 team.

Chaos: Powercrept as a Carry, Repurposed as a Stain Enabler

Why His Numbers Aged Badly

Chaos arrived in Version 1.1, right after Lacrimosa, and his numbers were never exceptional. His kit is built around Crime charges (generated through plunge attacks and basic combos) and Warrant (applied with his Redirect Skill or his Retribution Ultimate), which pushes him into an enhanced burst state where heavy attacks burn through Crime. His Remora Enhancement, Justice in Time, converts a long Remora into a large detonation — 800% of ATK when Remora expires, +45% per second beyond the base 5 seconds, up to +300%.

That design has two weaknesses that 1.4 exposed. First, it rewards a long Remora, so it actively dislikes Akane Rin's refresh-style Remora. Second, Chaos's stat priority (Lakshana DMG > ATK% > CRIT DMG > CRIT Rate) only pays off with heavy investment; at low duplicate counts he was already only middling, and once duplicates enter the conversation he sits near the bottom of the S-Class ladder.

The Blackbird Pivot

Chaos is not useless, though — he is the one old Lakshana unit that actually gained something from 1.4. Because Blackbird's signature team wants a Lakshana body to trigger Stain, Chaos can borrow the exact sub-DPS core players built for Akane Rin.

The current Chaos setup drops the Cosmos carry and Hathor entirely and looks like this:

Chaos + Blackbird + two stat buffers, played as a straight raw-damage comp with Stain unlocked. Blackbird's instant cycles keep Stain on the field, the two buffers convert that resistance shred into raw damage, and Chaos no longer has to wait on a Remora timer to deal his burst. In practice this outperforms his old Remora shell.

Verdict: no longer worth pulling as a main DPS, but if you already own him, he is now a Stain enabler with a real job — which is more than Hathor can claim.

Lakshana Investment Priority in Version 1.4

Priority

Action

Why

1

Pull Akane Rin (C0 minimum)

Strict upgrade over Chaos; enables her own Remora; works in every Lakshana shell

2

Pull Blackbird if you skipped phase one

Psyche + Lakshana = Stain; the backbone of the new Lakshana comps

3

Keep Skia built

Free Stain enabler with a team ATK buff via Good Boy's Grand Adventure + Speedy Hedgehog

4

Bench Hathor for endgame

Delay Warning is still strong, but no optimal team wants the slot cost

5

Rebuild Chaos as a Stain enabler

His carry ceiling is gone; his Blackbird pivot is genuinely better

The rule of thumb: Lakshana in 1.4 is about Stain uptime, not Remora duration. Any Lakshana unit that can stand next to Blackbird and keep resistance shred on the target has a job. Any Lakshana unit whose value is tied to a long Remora window is now competing with a passive that Akane Rin does better for free.

An A-Class character drops at least every 10 pulls along the way, and the base S-Class rate is 0.99%.

On the spending side, Riftcrystal converts 1:1 into Annulith and comes in tiers of 60 (0.99), 300 (4.99), 980 (14.99), 1,980 (29.99), 3,280 (49.99) and 6,480 (99.99), with a first-purchase double bonus on each tier. The Riftcrystal Permit at 4.99 is the best-value item in the store — 300 Riftcrystal plus 2,700 Annulith delivered as 90 per day for 30 days, plus 900,000 Fons — but it pays out daily, so it only helps if you start it well before the board closes. **Circle Bounty Elite** at 9.99 adds 680 Annulith, 4 Solid Dice and 2 Fabricated Dice.

If you are short on Annulith and the board clock is running, a Neverness to Everness top-up at Topuplist through the official Topuplist storefront is the quickest way to close the gap before pity, and it lets you top up by UID without touching your payment details inside the game client.

FAQ

Is Akane Rin worth pulling in NTE 1.4?
Yes. She is the strongest Lakshana character in the game on release, she beats Chaos at equal investment even with zero duplicates, and she works both as a hyper-carry and as the Remora refresher in Cosmos-led Charge teams. Her A3 and A6 Resonance Effects are strong, but C0 is already endgame-viable.

Is Hathor still usable after 1.4?
Usable, but no longer optimal. Her Delay Warning passive still extends Remora to 12 seconds and grants +10% CRIT Rate against Remora targets, and her Charge triple-cycle team still functions. The problem is that Chaos and Akane Rin both perform better running Blackbird for Stain than running Hathor for Remora, so she lost the partners she was designed for.

Should I still build Skia if I own Akane Rin?
Yes, but for a narrower reason. Skia is the cheapest Stain enabler in the game, and he can equip Good Boy's Grand Adventure and the Speedy Hedgehog console to hand the team a stable ATK buff. He is no longer the Lakshana support of choice in Charge teams — that is Akane Rin now — but Blackbird teams still want him.

Does Chaos benefit from Akane Rin?
Not directly. Community build guides flag that Akane Rin's Remora refresh does not help Chaos, because his Justice in Time passive wants one long Remora that expires on its own, while refreshes reset the duration. Chaos benefits far more from Blackbird, who unlocks Stain and lets him run a raw-damage comp with two buffers.

What is the difference between Remora and Stain?
Remora is the Lakshana + Cosmos reaction: it slows a target's movement and attack speed for about 5 seconds (extended to 12 by Hathor). Stain is the Lakshana + Psyche reaction: it shreds Psyche and Lakshana resistance on the target, amplifying damage instead of controlling the enemy. Version 1.4 shifted Lakshana's value from Remora toward Stain.

How much Annulith do I need to guarantee Akane Rin?
14,400 Annulith at hard pity (90 pulls at 160 each), with no 50/50 on Limited Boards. If you also want her signature Arc, Far Side of the Moon, budget another 12,800 Annulith for the guaranteed featured Arc — roughly 27,200 Annulith for the full kit in a worst-case run.

Do I need Blackbird to make a Lakshana team work in 1.4?
You need a Psyche unit to trigger Stain, and Blackbird is by far the best one — her instant cycles keep Stain up permanently. Haniel and Aurelia can also enable Stain, so Blackbird is not strictly mandatory, but she is the reason the Stain-first Lakshana comps pulled ahead of the old Remora comps.
