Meteor Golem received the largest buff in the July 2026 Clash of Clans balance update. That change has pushed the troop back into the TH18 ground meta, especially when paired with a Royal Champion Walk, Healers, Totem Spells and a Troop Launcher.
The strongest current version uses the Royal Champion to remove one corner of the base before recalling her. Meteor Golems then enter through a controlled funnel, absorb damage and split into Meteormites that can cross walls and attack deeper defenses.
This strategy is powerful, but it is not an automatic three-star army. Invisibility timing, funnel creation and cleanup planning determine whether the attack destroys the base or finishes with a frustrating time fail.
Is Meteor Golem the Best TH18 Army After the Buff?
Meteor Golem is one of the best TH18 ground troops after the July buff, but it is not the best choice for every base.
It works particularly well when:
The Royal Champion can safely remove one corner.
A clear ground route leads toward the core.
Important defenses are concentrated behind wall compartments.
A Troop Launcher can keep opening the intended route.
The base provides enough value for Totem and Overgrowth Spells.
Compared with easier air armies, RC Walk Meteor Golem requires more planning. However, it offers better control against bases that allow a strong Royal Champion entry and a direct ground push.
For most players, the best way to learn Meteor Golems is to master one reliable RC Walk setup rather than changing the army after every failed attack.
What Changed in the July 2026 Meteor Golem Buff?
Supercell did not publish a complete numerical table for the July adjustment. Instead, the developer explained the purpose of each change.
Meteor Golem and Meteormites received what Supercell called the biggest buff of the round. The goal was to make their split-and-merge gameplay worth using again without restoring the excessively strong launch version.
The same update also reduced the Logger Guardian’s rolling range by two tiles while strengthening its close-range push. This creates a mixed result for Meteor Golem armies: they can approach from farther away with less pressure, but tightly grouped units are more vulnerable once they reach the core.
Druid also received a modest healing increase at higher levels, creating another possible support option for experimental Meteor Golem armies.
The full reasoning is available in the official July Balance Update.
How Meteor Golem and Meteormites Work
Meteor Golem is not simply a high-HP tank. Its value comes from how it separates into Meteormites and later recombines.
Meteor Golem Split and Throw Mechanic
The Meteor Golem uses its unusual body as part of its attack. Its separated Meteormites can continue fighting independently, enter different compartments and jump over walls.
This makes the troop less predictable than a standard Golem. Good pathing allows the Meteormites to pressure defenses that would otherwise remain protected behind walls. Bad pathing can send them away from the main army and reduce the combined push.
The health of the spawned Meteormites is connected to the Meteor Golem’s current health. Keeping the main Golem healthy before it separates therefore improves the quality of the split.
How Meteormites Merge Back Together
When compatible Meteormites move close enough, they can reform into a Meteor Golem. The new Golem’s health reflects the remaining health of the units that formed it.
The combined Golem also receives a brief period of damage protection. This can be valuable when the merge happens near a Monolith, Logger or another concentrated damage zone.
Cloned Meteormites and defensive Clan Castle versions follow different rules and should not be treated like normal attacking Meteormites.
Meteor Golem Targeting
Meteor Golems do not prefer defenses. They generally select the closest available building.
They may change targets when they become aware of enemy Clan Castle troops, defending Heroes or Skeletons. This is one reason why poor funneling, Skeleton Traps and defensive Ice Golems can cause time problems.
Additional mechanical details can be checked on the updated Meteor Golem reference page.
Best TH18 Meteor Golem Army Composition
A strong RC Walk template uses five Meteor Golems and five Healers as its main package. The remaining capacity is divided between funnel units, Hero support, cleanup troops and units that help handle defending Heroes.
Use the official in-game RC Walk Meteor Golem army link to review and copy the full template in Clash of Clans.
Check your Clan Castle troops, spell capacity and Hero loadout before attacking. Army links can include elements that require specific upgrade levels.
Best Hero Equipment for Meteor Golem Attacks
The best equipment depends on the job assigned to each Hero. The Royal Champion is the most important part of the opening, while the Grand Warden protects the Meteor Golems through the core.
Royal Champion: Rocket Spear and Electro Boots
Rocket Spear helps the Royal Champion remove defenses without immediately entering their range. Electro Boots provide continuing area damage during the walk and when the RC returns for the back end.
Spirit Fox gives the RC periods of safety, allowing longer gaps between Invisibility Spells during the early part of the walk.
Grand Warden: Protect the Core Push
The Warden should travel with the Meteor Golems rather than join the opening Royal Champion Walk.
Eternal Tome protects the army when it reaches the strongest defensive section. The second equipment slot can focus on damage or sustain, depending on the base and the player’s available equipment levels.
Barbarian King and Archer Queen: Build the Funnel
The King and Queen generally create the opposite side of the funnel. Their job is to prevent Meteor Golems from following exterior buildings instead of entering the base.
They should not be deployed so far away that they cannot support the main attack later.
How to Use the RC Walk Meteor Golem Strategy
The attack can be divided into four phases:
Read the base and choose the RC corner.
Complete the RC Walk and recall the Champion.
Create the opposite funnel and deploy the main army.
Control the core before beginning early cleanup.
Step 1: Read the TH18 Base
Do not deploy the Royal Champion immediately. First identify the defenses that could stop the attack.
Check the locations of:
Town Hall and Logger Guardian.
Monolith.
Revenge Tower.
Defending Heroes.
Clan Castle activation range.
Skeleton Traps and likely high-trap areas.
Wall compartments along the main route.
Outside buildings that can pull Meteor Golems away.
The best RC entry removes a valuable defense while clearing enough buildings to create one side of the funnel.
If the Royal Champion can only destroy low-value exterior structures, consider a different corner or another army.
Step 2: Start the Royal Champion Walk
Deploy the Royal Champion with Healer support on the selected corner. Let Rocket Spear and Electro Boots begin removing defenses before committing too many spells.
The RC should ideally eliminate a combination of key defenses, such as the Monolith, Revenge Tower, defending Heroes or buildings that would interfere with the Meteor Golem route.
Do not use Invisibility automatically. Watch which defense is targeting the RC and whether Spirit Fox is currently protecting her.
Step 3: Time Invisibility Spells
While Spirit Fox is alive, the RC can often survive longer gaps between Invisibility Spells. A commonly used reference rhythm is roughly one protection window every ten seconds, although actual timing depends on damage and Fox behavior.
After Spirit Fox is defeated, the RC usually needs protection more frequently—often around every four seconds under heavy fire.
These are reference timings, not fixed rules. Always react to the base.
Avoid making the Royal Champion’s intended target invisible. Place each spell so it covers the RC and Healers without hiding the defense she needs to attack.
Step 4: Recall the Royal Champion
Recall the RC as soon as the planned corner is cleared.
Trying to take one more defense frequently turns a good setup into a time fail. The Royal Champion is still useful later, so recalling her is not abandoning value—it is moving that value to the second phase.
The funnel should be considered complete when the main army has only one sensible route into the base.
Step 5: Create the Opposite Funnel
Use the Barbarian King, Archer Queen, Baby Dragon or smaller troops on the other side of the intended entrance.
Wait until the important outside buildings are destroyed. If Meteor Golems can still see a closer exterior building, they may move around the base instead of entering the core.
Super Wall Breakers can create the first opening, but the Siege Machine should be aligned with the compartments the army needs to cross later.
Step 6: Deploy the Meteor Golem Army
A safe general deployment order is:
Ice Golem or initial tank.
Meteor Golems.
Supporting troops and Healers.
Grand Warden.
Troop Launcher.
Recalled Royal Champion when the back-end route becomes clear.
Spread the initial deployment slightly. Dropping every unit on one tile makes the army more vulnerable to splash damage and the Logger’s stronger close-range push.
Do not spread so widely that the Meteor Golems enter different compartments.
Step 7: Break Through the Core
The main danger begins when the army reaches the Logger, Monolith, defending Heroes and other high-damage defenses.
Use the Grand Warden’s ability before important units die. The ability is most valuable while Meteor Golems, Healers and support troops are all inside its radius.
Combine Rage with the strongest part of the push when possible. This increases damage and improves healing efficiency.
Totem Spells are especially useful around:
Logger Guardian.
Monolith.
Defending Heroes.
Skeletons that are distracting Meteor Golems.
Areas where Meteormites are trying to reform.
Overgrowth can block one side of the base and create a narrower route. However, the disabled defenses return when the spell expires, so make sure the remaining army can deal with them later.
Step 8: Redeploy the Royal Champion
The recalled Royal Champion is ideal for the back end.
Deploy her where Rocket Spear and Electro Boots can remove defenses that would otherwise stall the Meteor Golems. She can also help against a Revenge Tower or isolated defenses that the ground army is unlikely to reach quickly.
Do not wait until the main army is nearly dead. Redeploy the RC early enough for her damage to change the battle.
Step 9: Begin Cleanup Early
Meteor Golems and their support units are not fast. Start cleanup as soon as a safe section of the base is available.
Place Minions, Archers or Wizards on outside buildings that are no longer protected. Watch for corner structures and Builder Huts before the final thirty seconds.
Many failed Meteor Golem attacks have enough surviving troops to finish the base but not enough time.
Best Spells for Meteor Golem Attacks
Invisibility Spell
Its main role is protecting the Royal Champion during the opening. Correct placement is more important than covering a large area.
Avoid hiding the RC’s next target or wasting Invisibility while Spirit Fox has already made her safe.
Recall Spell
Recall ends the opening phase and saves the Royal Champion for the main attack. Use it when the funnel objective is complete rather than waiting until the RC reaches low health.
Totem Spell
Totem distracts defenses, defending Heroes and Skeletons. This creates time for the Meteor Golems to attack, split or merge without receiving concentrated damage.
It is one of the most valuable spells for the TH18 core.
Rage Spell
Rage is strongest when Meteor Golems, support troops and Healers are together. Avoid using it too early on the outer wall unless the army would otherwise stall.
Overgrowth Spell
Overgrowth removes a dangerous section from the immediate fight and can redirect the army toward the Town Hall.
Do not cover buildings required for pathing or leave the army unable to return after the spell expires.
Freeze Spell
Save Freeze for specific threats such as a Single-Target Inferno, Monolith or Revenge Tower. It is also useful when the Totem expires before the army has removed the targeted defenses.
Best Siege Machine for Meteor Golem Attacks
Troop Launcher
Troop Launcher is the best general option for RC Walk Meteor Golem.
It supports the push across several compartments and continues opening walls as the army moves. Its Clan Castle troops can reinforce the attack during the core or back-end phase.
Align it with the actual path of the Meteor Golems. A poor angle can open empty compartments while the army remains stuck elsewhere.
Log Launcher
Use Log Launcher when the entrance, core and Town Hall are close to a straight line. It provides reliable wall access and damages buildings along the route.
It loses value when the army must make a sharp turn.
Other Siege Machines
Alternative machines can work when the Town Hall requires a specific solution, but they should be chosen based on the base rather than personal habit.
If wall access is the army’s biggest concern, prioritize a Siege Machine that continues opening the route.
Best and Worst Bases for Meteor Golems
RC Walk vs Fireball Meteor Golem
RC Walk and Fireball Warden Walk are the two main ways to prepare a Meteor Golem push.
Choose RC Walk Meteor Golem When:
The RC can remove a valuable corner.
Rocket Spear and Electro Boots are well upgraded.
You are comfortable with Invisibility timing.
The recalled RC has a useful back-end deployment.
The main ground route becomes clear after the corner is removed.
Choose Fireball Meteor Golem When:
The Warden can safely walk along the outside.
Fireball can hit several high-value defenses.
The base does not offer a productive RC entry.
You are more comfortable controlling a Warden Walk.
The main army can function without the Warden during the opening.
Fireball versions can remove more defensive value before deployment, but they also consume time. RC Walk is usually better when the Royal Champion can create a full corner rather than only destroying one or two defenses.
Meteor Golem Army Variations
Meteor Golem with Super Bowlers
Meteor Golems can tank while Super Bowlers deal ranged bounce damage from behind them. This version works against compact compartments and relatively straight paths.
Its weakness is speed. Super Bowlers and Meteor Golems can both lose time when pathing becomes unclear.
Meteor Golem with Throwers
Throwers add steady damage behind the Meteor Golems. This hybrid is useful when the tanks can hold defenses in place while Throwers attack from a safer distance.
The army requires a precise funnel because support troops are vulnerable if they move ahead of the Golems.
Meteor Golem with Druid Support
The July update increased Druid healing at higher levels, making it worth testing in sustained ground pushes.
Druids should not automatically replace every Healer. Their behavior and transformation timing create a different type of support, so practise this version in Friendly Challenges before using it in CWL.
How to Avoid Meteor Golem Time Fails
Time is the main weakness of this strategy.
Use these rules to reduce the risk:
Decide the RC Walk objective before deploying.
Recall the Champion as soon as the funnel is finished.
Begin the opposite funnel while the RC Walk is ending.
Avoid taking more Meteor Golems than the base requires.
Deploy cleanup troops before the last defenses fall.
Use Totem to stop Skeletons and defensive units from delaying the army.
Check corner buildings before the attack.
Do not leave the recalled RC unused for too long.
Avoid forcing Meteor Golems against extremely spread layouts.
Common Meteor Golem Mistakes
Deploying Before the Funnel Is Ready
The buff does not fix bad pathing. Meteor Golems still attack the nearest available building and can move around the base.
Hiding the Wrong Building with Invisibility
If the RC’s target becomes invisible, she may move toward another defense and destroy the intended funnel.
Recalling the RC Too Late
The opening should remove a planned area, not as many defenses as possible. Every extra second increases the chance of a time fail.
Using Warden Ability After the Army Splits
Activate the ability while the important troops are still inside the Warden’s radius. Waiting too long protects fewer units.
Ignoring Walls
Meteormites can jump walls, but the combined Meteor Golem cannot. A failed Siege Machine path can still stop the main army.
Delaying Cleanup
Meteor Golems may finish the defenses but leave several ordinary buildings standing. Start cleanup when a safe area appears.
Should You Upgrade Meteor Golem After the Buff?
Meteor Golem is worth upgrading for TH18 players who regularly use ground armies.
A practical priority order is:
Meteor Golem levels.
Rocket Spear and Electro Boots for the RC Walk.
Grand Warden’s core protection equipment.
Invisibility, Totem, Recall and other required spells.
Troop Launcher.
Supporting Healers and funnel units.
Druid, Super Bowler or Thrower levels for alternative versions.
Players who only use air attacks can test the army through boosts or Friendly Challenges before committing upgrade resources.
Meteor Golem FAQ
How many Meteor Golems should I use at TH18?
Five Meteor Golems provide a strong core for the current RC Walk template. Fewer may be used in hybrid armies that need more ranged damage.
Can Meteormites jump over walls?
Yes. Meteormites can jump walls, but the combined Meteor Golem cannot. The main army still needs suitable wall access.
Can Meteor Golems attack air units?
Their area attack can affect ground and air targets. However, the army should still include Heroes or support units that can reliably handle defensive air troops.
What is the best spell for Meteor Golems?
Totem is one of the most valuable core spells, while Invisibility is essential for the RC Walk. Rage, Overgrowth and Freeze depend more heavily on the base.
What is the best Siege Machine?
Troop Launcher is the best general choice because it supports several compartments. Log Launcher is better when the base offers a straight route.
Why do Meteor Golem attacks time fail?
The main causes are an overly long RC Walk, poor funneling, Skeleton or defensive troop distractions and cleanup that begins too late.
Are Meteor Golems good in Legend League?
Yes. They can perform well in Legend League, but RC Walk versions require more consistent execution than simple air armies.
What defenses counter Meteor Golems?
Single-Target Infernos, Monolith, Revenge Tower, Logger Guardian, defensive Ice Golems, Skeleton Traps and defending Heroes can all slow or destroy the push.
Final Verdict: Is Meteor Golem Worth Learning?
Yes. Meteor Golem is the biggest offensive winner from the July 2026 balance update and one of the most valuable ground troops for TH18 players to learn.
RC Walk Meteor Golem is currently the strongest all-around version because it creates a reliable funnel and preserves the Royal Champion for the back end. Its success depends on precise Invisibility timing, an early Recall, correct Troop Launcher alignment and fast cleanup.
Practise the RC Walk and core spell order in Friendly Challenges before using the army in CWL or important War attacks. Once the opening becomes consistent, Meteor Golems can break many TH18 bases that are designed mainly to resist the air meta.
